The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a preliminary investigation into 554,000 Nissan Rogue SUVs sport utility vehicles after reports of their automatic emergency braking systems engaging without warning or obstruction by the U.S Road Safety agency. There have been a number of reports claiming that the vehicle’s automatic braking system is braking when there is no obstacle in the way. Over 800 owners have filed complains about the problem, and 14 crashes and 5 injuries have occurred due to the issue. This investigation is concerning the Rogue model years 2017 and 2018. If you have one of these vehicles, you should be careful while driving. The cause of this issue has not been determined yet. Nissan has a technical service bulletin out in order to find the cause of the false braking. A recall is being considered due to the seriousness of the issue. So far, Nissan is telling customers of the issue and encouraging them to get a free software update which might improve the system’s performance.
Organizations like the Auto Safety Center say the SUVs should be recalled. The Auto Safety center is an organization that looks out for vehicle consumer interests. They claim the company isn’t acknowledging the seriousness of the problem. Things like railroad tracks, traffic lights, parking structures, and bridges can trigger the system. This unexpected breaking could cause serious accidents. Nissan is Cooperating with the NHTSA, and whether the vehicles will be recalled or not will be determined in the coming days.
